Baripada/Balasore: Six persons were killed and 15 others were injured, five of them seriously, in separate road accidents in Odisha in the wee hours of Monday.
Reports from Mayurbhanj district said three persons died when their bike was hit by an unknown vehicle coming from the opposite direction. They were returning back home in Betonati block after attending a marriage function. The deceased have been identified as Biswajit Panda, Banku Patra and Sudhir Das of Berhampur and Bishrampur areas under Baisinga police limits.
In another incident in the district, a man was found lying dead near his bike in Dohikoti in the early morning. Following information, police rushed to the spot and took the body to the district headquarters hospital in Baripada. The deceased has been identified as Amulya Behera of Baswasari area of Baripada.
Besides, one person was killed and another seriously injured when a speeding truck hit their bike in Betonati area in the early morning. Talking to mediapersons at the hospital, Prabhat Sendh, who was seriously injured in the accident, said he had come from Fuladi area in Balasore with his friend to deliver the new bike to a customer when a truck hit the bike killing his friend on the spot. Police are on the hunt for the absconding driver who fled with the vehicle soon after the mishap.
In Balasore district, 10 passengers were injured when a Balasore-bound private bus ‘Jhadeswar’ from Barajadeuli overturned near Alada village in the early morning. The injured were later admitted to Primary Health Centres (PHCs) at Bishnupur and Gopalpur.
In another incident in the district, a driver was killed and four others seriously injured when a Bolero jeep in which they were travelling, was hit by a speeding truck on NH-16. The deceased has been identified as Shahjahan Khan from Begunia area in Khurda district. The four injured have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
