Phulbani: As many as six passengers were reportedly killed and over 30 others injured after a trolley van rammed into a roadside tree in Kandhamal district on Thursday morning.
According to sources, the incident took place when around 40 people from Atali village were going in the trolley of the 407 van to attend a marriage function in Madangi village.
As the van reached Kutibali village under Kotagad police limits, the driver lost control and hit a roadside tree. The vehicle overturned on the impact.
While 6 villagers including 3 old persons died on the spot, 30 other sustained injuries in the mishap. However, the identities of the deceased persons have not been ascertained.
On being informed, police and Fire personnel from Kotagad rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. They with the the help of the locals sent the injured to Kotgad hospital. Later, the critically injured persons were shifted to Baliguda Sub-Division Hospital and Bissamcuttack Community Health Centre.
