Bhopal: Six people were killed, and 10 others were injured after a truck ploughed into a wedding procession in the Sultanpur area of Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district while allegedly overtaking from the wrong side, police said on Tuesday.
According to police sources, the accident took place around 10 pm on Monday when the procession was en route to Khamaria village in Raisen from Anchalkheda in Hoshangabad district, killing four people on the spot. Two others died while undergoing treatment.
The victims include labourers carrying lights as part of the procession.
The injured have been admitted to AIIMS-Bhopal. “A total of 6 people have died, while 10 people are seriously injured.They have been shifted to Bhopal. The truck driver is absconding and search is on. The truck is registered in Rajasthan. It was coming from Bhopal,” district collector Arvind Kumar Dubey told ANI.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured, he added.
