Baripada: Police have arrested 6 persons including a Forester involved in smuggling of pangolin scales in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
Following a tip off about a deal for sale of the pangolin scales in a house of Badajhada village under Kaptipada forest range, a police team conducted a raid.
During the raid, the police found the scales of an entire pangolin in a sack. The scales, which weighed 2 kg and 135 gram, those were estimated to be 3 to 4 years old. The police have also seized 6 mobile phones, 2 motorcycles and a Scooty from the spot.
The police also arrested 6 persons including a Forester involved in the deal. The Forester was identified as Ram Chandra Marandi of Ayodhya forest range. The police have registered a case and launched investigation to ascertain others involved in hunting the pangolin and smuggling its scales.
