Baaripada: Six poachers were arrested by the Forest Department officials with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) inside Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
Official sources said high-power AI-enabled trap cameras have been installed at various places in the Similipal sanctuary to protect wildlife. On the basis of these trap cameras, the six poachers were arrested in Boniada village under Udala police station.
The accused were arrested on the basis of the photos captured by the AI cameras installed in the forest.
Five country-made guns along with a large quantity of gunpowder and iron pellets were seized from them. So far, a total of six guns, along with various illegal items, have been recovered.
Forest Department officials said four of the arrested accused have been produced before the Baripada SDJM court. They have been taken on two-day remand.
Four of the accused have been identified as Santosh Bhakta (28), Biswanath Bhakta (25), Simnath Bhakta (30) and Santosh Bhakta (50).
