Keonjhar: A six-year-old boy has turned into a hero for saving a 4-year-old from drowning in a canal at Khuntapada village near Telkoi in Keonjhar district.
Villagers said the boy, Tanmay, and the girl, Surabhi, were playing on a Hume pipe near a canal on October 7. Due to heavy rain, the water level of the canal was very high.
Suddenly, Surabhi slipped, but tanmay managed to grab her hand in the nick of time. As she hung on for life, the boy started wailing for help. Hearing him, some locals rushed to the spot and rescued the girl.
According to villagers, the height of the pipe was three-feet and the water level was high inside it. “If Surabhi had fallen in the water, she would have drowned. It was due to Tanmay’s presence of mind that my granddaughter was saved,” said Surabhi’s grandmother Panchali Behera.
