Bhubaneswar: After reporting less than 50 new COVID cases for four days in a row, the daily count in Odisha jumped by almost 60 per cent on Wednesday as 59 more people tested positive for the virus.
The state had reported 37 infections on March 29, 43, 48 and 43 new cases on March 28, 27 and 26 respectively after 55 were found infected on March 25.
According to the I & PR department, 35 of the new infections are from quarantine and 24 local contacts. Among them, 17 are in the age group of 0-18 years. These have been detected in 11 districts with Sudargarh reporting the highest of 15 cases followed by Khurda at 14. The remaining nine districts have reported cases in a single digit.

With these cases being detected from 43,986 samples, the test positivity rate stood at 0.13 per cent against 0.09 per cent the previous day.
Odisha now has 400 active cases with 65 recoveries in the past 24 hours. Only Keonjhar has nil active cases.
