60% Of Signboards Must Be In Kannada, Orders Bengaluru Civic Body

Bengaluru: Karnataka is seeing several changes since Congress ousted BJP in the Assembly elections and came to power seven months ago.

In the latest directive, commercial establishments in Bengaluru have been told to ensure 60% of their signboards are in Kannada language by end of February.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) announced it will suspend licence of shops, hotels and malls that don’t comply with the 60% Kannada rule on name boards by February 28, 2024.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath.

A strict vigil will be kept on Bengaluru’s 1400 km arterial and sub arterial roads to take note of shops following the Kannada language rule on signboards, and those violating the order.

A pro-Kannada group recently created a ruckus in Chickpete, targeting Marwari vendors over the language issue.
