Bhubaneswar: Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra on Monday informed the Odisha Assembly that 604 cases of rape, involving minor girls, were reported in the state in the first six months (till June) this year.
The minister, in a written reply to a question of BJD member Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, said that 2018 saw four girls being allegedly raped every day on an average with the number of such cases totaling to 1430 as compared to 2502 rapes with an average of seven cases every day in 2017.
Referring to action taken against the culprits, he said of the 1073 rape cases were registered in 2018 and 197 accused convicted.
