Kyiv: A 64-km long Russian military convoy which was reportedly moving towards the Ukrainian capital, has remained ‘stalled’ for the past 24 to 36 hours.
According to US Defence Department spokesman John Kirby, the convoy with hundreds of Russian armoured vehicles, has not made any significant progress over the past day or so.
“They haven’t from our best estimates made any appreciable progress in the last 24 to 36 hours,” Kirby told a press briefing at the Pentagon.
The convoy was supposedly approaching Kyiv to seize control of the capital, overthrow President Volodymyr Zelensky’s government and instal a pro-Kremlin regime.
The delay was attributed to Russian forces “regrouping” themselves, reassessing the progress and how to make up for lost time. Further, “logistics and sustainment challenges and resistance from Ukrainians” have added to the Russian worries, the US official said.
Some other international media reports quoted sources as saying that fuel and food shortages have resulted in the convoy slowing down.
BBC reported that Russian troops have been raiding supermarkets and looting essentials and food items.
