Malkangiri: Malkangiri police on Tuesday arrested two persons in connection with illegal transportation of ganja (cannabis).
Those arrested were identified as Ananda Jena (25) of Talasahi and Dillip Kumar Bala (37) of Padmagiri in the district.
Besides, 660 kg of the contraband, a pick-up vehicle, Rs 8 lakh in cash and four mobile handsets were seized from their possession.
On Tuesday morning, Malkangiri police got information about ganja being transported in Padamgiri area. A police team was formed and it intercepted the vehicle, carrying ganja.
The accused persons and the seized articles will be produced before the court, police sources said.
On September 27, two persons were arrested with 143 kg 70 grams of ganja from an area under Chitrakonda police limits in the district. The police also seized a car without registration number.
This year, 72 NDPS cases have been registered in the district so far and 16,575 kg ganja seized along with 148 arrests.
