67 Odisha Cops To Receive Police Medals For Gallantry On I-Day; Check The List Here

Bhubaneswar: On the eve of 75th Independence Day, the Centre on Saturday announced the list of 67 policemen of the Odisha Police for the Police Medals for Gallantry.

.Thanking the Centre for this recognition of valour and courage of Odisha Police personnel, Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay said, “This is the highest number of medals on one occasion announced for Odisha Police. It is a matter of pride and celebration for us.”

The award recognised the valiant action of policemen during the exchange of fire with the Left-Wing Extremists on nine different occasions.

“While we celebrate the valour and brave, of our men and remember the sacrifice of our martyrs, we appeal to Maoists to lay down their arms and join the mainstream,” the DGP added.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 1,380 police personnel will be honoured on Independence Day. Of them, 628 Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) Awards, one President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) to Jammu and Kashmir Police and one PPMG to CRPF (Posthumous) will be awarded.

A total of 398 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in Jammu and Kashmir region, 155 engaged in Moiast-affected areas and 27 of the North-East Region.

Among the personnel receiving Gallantry Awards, 256 are from J&K Police, 151 are from CRPF, 23 are from ITBP and 67 are from Odisha Police, 25 are from Maharashtra and 20 are from Chhattisgarh and the remaining from the other States/UTs and CAPFs.
