Koraput: Seven police personnel of Machakunda and Lamtaput police stations in Odisha’s Koraput have been suspended for allegedly letting ganja traffickers go scot-free.
The incident was reported on Monday night following which a team of senior police officials from the district headquarters investigated the matter and submitted a report to Koraput SP, who then placed them under suspension, sources said.
Three sub-inspectors, two constables and as many home guards have been placed on suspension for alleged dereliction of duty in connection with the incident. The team was on patrolling duty on Monday night when they intercepted a ganja-laden vehicle. However, instead of arresting the smugglers, they let them go, the sources added.
While police are tight-lipped on the matter, reliable sources said that a probe has been launched into the case.
