Bhadrak: At least six people were critically injured in a clash between two groups during the Ganesh idol immersion ceremony at a village in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
According to sources, the incident took place at Palia under the jurisdiction of Tihidi Police Station in the district late on Wednesday night.
Tension prevailed in the area in the violent incident in which seven persons sustained grievous injuries. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Three of them were later shifted to a hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.
Locals said a verbal altercation erupted between members of the two groups over some trivial issue. The conflict soon turned violent with the two groups attacking each other with sticks and other objects.
On being informed, a team of police personnel rushed to the site to control the situation. Adequate police forces has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation and prevent any further escalation.
