Bhadrak: As many as 7 members of a family including two minor girls were seriously injured in an attack by some miscreants reportedly due to political rivalry in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Friday.
According to sources, the family members of Upendra Mallik of Chirala village under Basudevpur police station in the district had wanted to join BJP. On Thursday night, some BJP workers of the area came to Upendra’s house and held a meeting with his family about joining their party.
After the BJP workers left the place, some unidentified persons forcefully entered Upendra’s house and attacked his family members. The assailants did not spare two minor girls of the family. Abusing them in filthy language, they threatened them against joing the BJP.
Later, the villagers admitted all 7 injured persons of Upendra’s family in the district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Bhadrak. The condition of the 4 injured members was stated to be critical.
On Friday morning, Upendra filed a complaint about the attack at Basudevpur police station. The police have registered a case and started investigation, said IIC Lopamudra Nayak.
Upendra told the media persons that he was a Congress supporter for a long time. Recently, he wanted to switch his support to BJP. He suspected that it might have led to the assault on his family.
