Berhampur: At least seven members of a marriage party sustained serious injuries after the bus in which they were travelling met with an accident near Taptapani in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
As per preliminary reports, the mishap took place near Taptapani Ghat when the bus carrying members of a marriage party was on its way from Chandiput in Gajapati district to Digapahandi.
The bus was returning after the wedding ceremony held at Chandiput when the mishap took place in the afternoon.
The bus skidded off the road and dashed against a huge boulder after losing balance apparently due to suspected brake failure at a sharp turn. Several people were injured in the mishap.
On being informed, fire services personnel from Sanakhemundi rushed to the site and rescued the injured passengers. Seven of them were admitted to hospital at Digapahandi for treatment.
A police team from Patapur also visited the site and launched an investigation into the accident. The driver of the bus claimed that the accident took place as the brake of the vehicle failed to function.
