Bhubaneswar: Even as the IMD forecast that heatwave condition will continue for 2 more days in Odisha, as many as 22 places in the state recorded temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Sunday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, the mercury touched 45 degree Celsius in 7 places of the state.
Sambalpur was the hottest city in Odisha with 46 degree Celsius, followed by Sonepur with 45.8 degree, Boudh and Hirakud 45.5, Jharsuguda 45.2 and Sundargarh and Balangir 45 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded maximum temperature of 41.6 and 40.2 degree Celsius respectively on the day.
The IMD has forecast no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during next 2 days and gradual fall by 3-5 degree thereafter at many places in the state. Maximum temperature is very likely to remain above normal by 4-7 degree at a few places during next 3 days.
The Met office has also issued orange warning stating that heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places in the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Boudh.
It has also sounded yellow warning and said heatwave is very likely to prevail at one or two places in the districts of Jajpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Mayurbhanj.
Besides, the IMD has forecast that light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar,
Balasore districts by 8.30 am on Monday.
