Bhubaneswar: Police on Tuesday arrested 3 of the seven persons, who allegedly looted Rs 2.40 lakh from a house at Ruben village under Mohan Giri police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district the previous day by posing as cops.
According to sources, the seven looters dressed in police uniforms raided the house Reepa Majhi on the pretext of searching for a couple, who they claimed had eloped and were hiding in his house. During the staged house search, they managed to loot Rs 2.4 lakh from a box. Locals, however, got a wind of it and nabbed Pintu Sethy (28) and Ashish Digal (28) of Baliguda, and Sudhakar Baliarshingh (32) of Pakari village as the gang was escaping in their four-wheeler.
The villagers then handed over the three looters to Mohan Giri police.
Police said that further investigation is underway and efforts are on to nab the other four absconding accused.
