Cuttack: A seven-year-old boy died after a school gate allegedly collapsed and fell on him in Athagarh area of Odisha’s Cuttack district.
The deceased has been identified as Chiku Naik of Ankula village.
Sources said, Chiku along with other schoolchildren were playing near the gate of Satyabadi nodal upper primary school on Friday. The iron gate came crashing down over the kids. While others managed to escape, Chicku got trapped under the gate before being rescued.
He was rushed to the Athagarh sub-divisional hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Following a complaint, police have started investigation into the incident.
The incident which has sent shock waves in the area, has raised the concern over safety of children in schools having unsafe infrastructure.
