Rayagada: At least 70 prisoners and five staff at Gunupur sub-jail in Rayagada district have tested positive for COVID-19.
The jail superintendent, Kamakshya Prasad Pati, told this to the media on Tuesday.
Pati said the swab samples of 113 inmates and all jail staff were taken for COVID test. According to the reports received on Monday, 70 inmates and five staff had tested positive.
He said the COVID postive prisoners are kept in a separate cell and the infected jail staff are in home isolation.
The superintendent stated that the entire jail has been sanitized and the contact tracing of the infected inmates and staff is underway.
