Bhubaneswar: KIIT and KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Craiova, one of Romania’s oldest public universities.
The Bhubaneswar-based eminent educationist and social reformer was honoured at a special ceremony organised by the university on its premises on Saturday.
Samanta was presented the honorary degree in the presence of Prof. Leonardo Geo Menescu, the president of Craiova Senate, and several academicians, students
and distinguished guests.
This is the 73rd honorary doctorate received by Samanta, who was honoured in recognition of his remarkable contribution towards the development of society through education.
The University of Craiova, established in 1947, had recommended Dr Samanta’s name in accordance with its constitutional responsibilities under the applicable laws. During the full senate meeting held last month, the university resolved to confer the honorary doctorate upon him.
Samanta expressed his gratitude to the university authorities for the honour, and said that he has been working continuously in the fields of education and social service for over three decades. He added that the recognition will further inspire him to continue his efforts.
He dedicated the recognition to all employees of KIIT and KISS, saying that their hard work and commitment have resulted in this award.
