Sundargarh: A gambling racket was busted by the police in Odisha’s Sundargarh district with the arrest of eight persons and seizure of cash amounting to Rs 7.70 lakh during a late-night raid.
Acting on a tip off, a team from Bargao
n police station raided a gambling den in the area and caught the accused red-handed while they were engaged in unlawful betting activities.
The police team also recovered Rs 7,70,050 in cash, one vehicle, gambling-related materials, and ten mobile phones suspected to have been used for coordinating the illegal activity.
Further investigation is in progress to ascertain the scale of the racket and possible involvement of other people in the racket.
The action was part of the zero-tolerance approach towards illegal gambling and other unlawful activities. Strict enforcement drives will continue to curb such offences, police said.
