Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police of Bhubaneswar has arrested 8 persons for allegedly duping people through cyber fraud.
According to police sources, the gang of 8 persons used to send messages on “work from home” to the people through Whatsapp, Telegram and other online sources. They were promising to pay Rs 50 if anybody liked and shared a video sent by the former.
After paying the person for some videos initially, the gang was asking him to invest some money for high returns. Here also, the accused initially paid the returns to the victim and encouraged him to invest higher amount.
Once anybody paid a large amount, he was not getting back the return. The cyber frauds had duped the people of total Rs 14,53,043 through different bank accounts.
After one such victim, Pramod Kumar Sahu filed a complaint at cyber police station, the latter started investigation. After tracing the accused, the cyber police seized Rs 6,32,800 of the fraudsters in the bank accounts.
The police have also seized the SIM cards of the mobile phones used by the accused and forwarded them to court following their arrest, a release of the Commissionerate of Police stated.
