Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police detained eight workers of the Chhatra Congress for staging protest near the motorcade of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Sources said members of the Chhatra Congress allegedly showed black flags to Bhagwat who was on his way to Jayadev Bhawan in the capital city to attend a meeting.
“There were eight Congress workers, and they have been detained,” Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police S Dev Dutta Singh confirmed following the incident.
Condemning the protest of the Chhatra Congress, Biswajit Patra, Member of ABVP’s National Executive Committee said such behaviour is unacceptable at a time when someone of repute is visiting the State to attend a condolence meeting. In coming days, a fitting reply will be given to today’s incident.”
Following the protest by the Chhatra Congress activists, security of the RSS Chief has been tightened, said police sources.
It may be noted that the RSS chief arrived in Bhubaneswar on a five-day visit to Odisha during which he will take stock of organisational activities.
