Bhubaneswar: About 8 lakh people have been affected by the flood in the state, said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena on Saturday.
Briefing the media on the flood update, he said about 3 lakh domestic animals and 3 lakh hectares of agricultural fields have been affected while 8000 houses have been damaged, according to the preliminary estimate.
On the human casualty due to the flood, the SRC said 16 people have died of drowning and house collapse.
Stating that the flood has rendered maximum damage in Bhadrak and Jajpur districts, Jena said 610 villages in Bhadrak and 560 villages in Jajpur have been affected.
He also informed that considering the flood in Brahmani river, it will be crucial for Kendrapada district for next 24 hours.
A comprehensive flood assessment will be done after the floodwater recedes, he added.
