Cuttack: An eight-month-old child was among two killed in a head-on collision between an auto-rickshaw and a truck at Athagarh in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday.
According to sources, the accident occurred near Panchagaon Gas Depot under Tigiria police limits in the district when six persons of a family of 42 Mouza under Cuttack Sadar police limits were on their way to Gania village in Nayagarh district to attend a 10-day ritual of a relative.
The locals rescued the injured persons and rushed them to Tigiria Community Health Centre, where Prabhat Naik succumbed to injuries. Three among the critically injured were then shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here, where the infant died while undergoing treatment.
The auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Binod Samal, sustained severe injuries in the mishap. Another person, identified as Ramachandra Behera, who was selling fish on the roadside, was also grievously injured after being hit by the auto, the sources added.
On being informed, Tigiria police and detained the truck driver. An investigation into the matter is underway.
