Rourkela: At least eight workers were critically ill after a toxic gas reportedly leaked at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on Monday.
As per preliminary information, eight workers, including some contractual labourers, fell sick following leakage of carbon monoxide gas at a blast furnace.
The incident took place when the workers were trying to undertake some repair work at blast furnace number- 5 at the steel plant in the morning.
Soon after the incident, the eight workers were rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) for treatment. They are now undergoing treatment in the ICU of the hospital.
Hospital sources said all the affected workers have been kept under close observation for 24 hours.
Similar mishaps had also been reported earlier at the RSP.
Senior RSP officials were not immediately available to share detailed information about the incident. Further details are awaited.
