Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, a man and his eight-year-old daughter died after drowning in a pond at a village in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Friday.
The mishap took place at Khankarai village under the jurisdiction of Gondia police station in the district. The deceased have been identified as Maheshwar Nayak (48) and his daughter Mandakini Nayak (8).
According to sources, the two were bathing in the pond when they slipped into the deep water. As a result, they were unable to come out of deep water and drowned in the pond.
On being informed, a team of fire services personnel reached the spot, pulled the two out of water and rushed them to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Dhenkanal. However, both were declared dead by the doctors.
