Udala: In a shocking incident that has come to light at Chhotraypur village under Kaptipada police limits of Odisha’s Mayurhanj, a tribal couple allegedly took their eight-year-old son to a local deity for human sacrifice. However, the boy fortunately managed to escape from their clutches and was later rescued by locals.
The couple, Shiddhi Marandi and Phula Marandi, was caught by police from a forest in an inebriated condition on Wednesday.
As per the boy, his parents told him that they were visiting his maternal uncle’s place at Chakradharpur but instead took him to Kukundarani Hudi near a hill in Nudadiha area to offer him to the deity. The father reportedly put a knife on his throat during the rituals for human sacrifice. He got terrified and ran away and was later found by some local youths wandering alone.
When the boy narrated the incident to the villagers, who rushed to the spot but the couple had fled by then.
Kaptipada IIC Pravanjan Behera said the accused couple were caught from a forest. “Both of them were in an inebriated condition as they had consumed liquor the entire night,” he said.
