Nuapada: At least 80 people were arrested during a massive crackdown on illegal gambling activities at Thelkodunguri near Khariar Road under Jonk police limits in Odisha’s Nuapada district.
According to the police, the gambling den had been operating near a cowshed in Thelkobeda village along Odisha-Chhattisgarh border for months and was frequented by a large number of people, including local businessmen. A special team of police from Koraput, led by Nuapada SP G R Raghavendra conducted the raid on Saturday night, following instructions from DGP YB Khurania. Police locked the main gate from the outside to secure the premises before making the arrests.
Besides, Rs 29 lakh, 74 mobile phones and a box containing additional cards from the spot. Around 25 cars, and more than 10 motorcycles were also seized, police sources said.
