Puri: An octogenarian woman volunteer from Maharashtra has won the heart of Odisha for helping in the biggest clean up drive of the beach in this holy town.
Sakhubai Deshmukh (85) along with over a 1,000 followers of Shri Santh Janardhan Swamy Sanstha of Maharashtra participated in cleaning the periphery of the Lord Jagannath temple and the Puri district headquarters hospital on July 26. Next day, the volunteers hit the beach to clean it up.
Puri Collector Balwant Singh has felicitated Sakhubai with a letter of appreciation and thanked her for the commendable work for Puri after the Fani devastation. Odisha netizens too have been going gaga over this diminutive woman’s selfless act.
On her part, Sakhubai said, ““We love to serve God by doing this voluntary work. We did our part. And now, other people should carry it forward. Keep the surroundings clean by not littering.”
