Kendrapada: The Sadar police in Odisha’s Kendarapada district on Friday raided a nursing home in Station Bazar area of Cuttack over allegation of illegal abortion.
Police acted on the complaint of a Kendrapada-based law student who was allegedly impregnated by one Paresh Barik and later forced to abort. Barik, a resident of Mathasahi under Patamundai police limits engaged the woman in the relation for four years on the pretext of marriage, said sources.
According to the complaint, on August 6, Barik took the woman to the nursing home in Cuttack where abortion was carried out. The complainant was lodged in a girls hostel for a few days after abortion, sources added.
After leaving the hostel, the woman along with her brother filed a police complaint.
Police arrested Paresh Barik, Bhabani Das, Manasi Rout (Nurse), Nijit Mahapatra, Biswajit Dutta, Priyabrata Senapati, Nilipsa Ranjan Das, Mamina Mahapatra, and Madhusmita Swain in this case and forwarded them to the court.
