Bhawanipatna: With the number of COVID-19 positive cases reaching new heights everyday in Odisha in the second wave, the frontline workers stand exposed to the virus as 9 police personnel have been infected in Kalahandi district in the last 5 days.
“Four personnel of Kesinga police station and five others have been infected between April 15 and 19. They have mild symptoms and are under isolation,” the TNIE quoted district SP Saravana Vivek as informing.
The SP, who met the infected personnel to know their condition on Monday, said all of them had taken both doses of COVID-19 vaccine. A 35-bed Covid care centre in Bhawanipatna is being prepared only for the police personnel, he added.
Of 62,706 police personnel, who had registered to take the vaccines, 55,651 were administered both doses and 59,293 the first dose till April 15.
As many as 8,905 police personnel tested positive for the disease in Odisha till March 5 and 48 of them succumbed to the disease.
In the second wave of COVID-19, western Odisha districts have been registering a high number of positive cases. Kalahandi has registered 167, 273 and 324 positive cases in the last 3 days, according to the I & PR Department.
