9 Held, Rs 12 Lakh Seized During Police Raid On Gambling Den In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Tightening the noose around gamblers, police on Monday arrested nine persons and seized over Rs 12 lakh following a raid in Kesura area of Bhubaneswar.

As per preliminary information, the arrest was made after a joint team of special squad and Badagada Police Station conducted the raid on the gambling den at a Kalyan Mandap near Keshura Chhak.

Acting on a tip-off about the illegal activity at the Kalyan mandap, the joint team carried out the operation. While nine gamblers were arrested, police also seized over Rs 12 lakh and other materials from the possession of the accused.

Sources said that some Malaysian currency notes were also recovered from the site. This apart, three cars and several mobile phones have also been recovered.

The accused persons reportedly belong to Jajpur, Balasore, Kendrapada and Cuttack. Further investigation is in progress to ascertain whether others are also involved in the racket.
