Chennai: At least nine people were killed and several others injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory in Vembakottai of Tamil Nadu’s Virudhanagar district.
Preliminary reports hint at deaths of women working at the manufacturing unit.
As per reports, the explosion was so high that it destroyed four buildings along with the factory.
Police and Fire Department officials rushed to the spot and began the rescue operation. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
The cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.
