Dhenkanal: Within a week of the loot from a branch of Odisha Gramya Bank in Dhenkanal district in broad daylight, the police have nabbed the gang involved in the heist and recovered stolen jewellery from them.
According to sources, following the loot from the bank’s branch at Mahabiroad under Kamakshyanagar block of the district on February 3, Dhenkanal SP had formed a special team headed by Kamakshyanagar to investigate into the case.
The police team conducted raids on several suspected places to get clues about the accused. During the raids, they came to know about involvement of the gang. Later, the police arrested 9 members of the gang from different places.
The police also recovered gold jewellery weighing over 6 kg, Rs 4.32 lakh, 4 motorcycles used in the crime, a car, 3 pistols, live cartridges and two mobile phones from the possession of the gang.
The arrested persons have been identified as Saddam Khan alias Bulu, Nilandri Pradhan, Ranjit Nahak, Kitendra Pradhan, Dinesh Nayak, Balabhadra Nayak, Rami Tudu, Basant Bhoi and Jharana Bhoi. They belong to Dhenkanal and Angul districts.
It may be noted that four members of the gang had come on two motorcycles to the bank in the afternoon. One of them fired in the air and locked up the bank employees and a few customers present at the time in a room.
After taking the keys of the strong room from the employees, they opened 4 trunks containing the mortgaged gold jewelleries of the bank’s customers. After putting the jewelleries in a bag, they took cash from the counter and decamped.
