Nuapada: Excise officials have arrested 9 women from Madhya Pradesh for allegedly smuggling ganja from Odisha’s Nuapada district.
As per reports, the Excise department was informed about an inter-state racket operating in the district for smuggling ganja. Following investigation and obtaining reliable information about the racket, the Excise officials carried out raids on different places in the town on Tuesday.
During the raids, ganja weighing 1.53 quintal was seized in possession of the smugglers. The Excise officials arrested 9 women who are involved in smuggling the contraband. All the women belong to Madhya Pradesh, said sources.
Following the seizure, the arrested women were being questioned to ascertain involvement of other persons in the racket.
