Berhampur: As many as 90 houses were reduced to ashes after a major
fire broke out at Geta slum in Berhampur of Ganjam district on
Thursday.
Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
Though the exact cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained, fire
personnel suspect an electrical short circuit to have triggered the
incident. More than 100 families have lost their clothes and household
items including utensils and furniture, a district official said.
Receiving information about the mishap, local MLA reached the spot and
took stock of the situation and supervised the relief operations.
