Balasore: The Chandipur Forest Department officials jointly with a team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Thursday busted a turtle smuggling racket, while these were being trafficked in a steel cage, at Rajghat railway station in Balasore district.
Two persons involved in the trade were also arrested. They were identified as Kartik Patra of Medinipur in West Bengal and Rabindra Pradhan of Bhogarai in Balasore district.
According to the sources, they were trading the turtles from Rajghat to West Bengal. A total of 91 turtles of four different species were rescued.
According to police, the turtles are in demand of their flesh and use in medicines.
Further investigation is underway.
