Bhubaneswar: The first day of the vaccination drive for pregnant women in the Odisha capital saw 92 eligible beneficiaries receiving the first dose of the Covaxin as protection against COVID-19, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation informed on Wednesday.
The next session will be held on Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm.
The Health department sources had earlier informed about availability of the vaccine in Capital Hospital and all government UPHCs and UCHCs here. The expectant mothers will be vaccinated at these centres from 11 am to 1 pm every Wednesday and Saturday.
They are required to carry valid ID proof (Aadhar/PAN Card) and MCP (mother and child protection) to the vaccination centres, the sources added.
According to the guidelines, the beneficiaries will be initially counselled about the benefits of the vaccine and the possible side effects. They will be administered the vaccine following their consent.
There is will no queues at the vaccination centres for them with dedicated waiting rooms being set up for their convenience. All pregnant women will be kept under observation for at least 30 minutes for any possible adverse events following immunisation.
The BMC further informed that residents aged 18-44 and 45+, who have taken their first dose on June 24 or before will be administered the second dose at the same centre on Thursday. This is also applicable for drive-in centres.
A total of 10,31,738 people had taken the first jab in the city while 6,45,029 have been fully vaccinated.
