Sambalpur: Senior BJP leader and Sambalpur MLA Jaynarayan Mishra on Tuesday said jaundice in the city was under control and necessary steps were being taken to prevent its spread.
Speaking to media persons in Sambalpur, Mishra said he held a review meeting on spread of jaundice and the steps to be taken to control it in the city.
“Total 93 persons were affected by the disease. Of them, three persons were admitted in hospital and discharged after treatment. The situation is now under control and there is nothing to panic,” he said.
On being asked about the possible causes for spread of the disease, the MLA said two factors were responsible. According to the CDMO, consumption of polluted water was one reason and the other is the fast food sold by the street vendors during the Sital Sasthi festival.
“As a precautionary measure, all pipelines supplying drinking water to every household are being checked. After identifying the areas where the pipes have been damaged, necessary steps will be taken. WATCO has been told to make a survey and prepare a budget and then we will ensure supply of pure drinking water in the city,” Mishra said.
Besides, the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation has been directed to take up sanitation work on a war footing so that fresh cases are not reported in the entire city, he added.
It may be noted that jaundice cases were initially reported from Kukharpada, Shalia Bagicha and Pension Pada of the city a few days back. Later, it spread to other areas raising concern among the local people.
The district health authorities provided medicines to the patients after conducting necessary medical tests. Health workers also visited different areas, particularly slums, to spread awareness among the people.
