Bhubaneswar: As many as 96 bar dancers were detained following police raids at bars dotting the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack road on Friday night.
The Police Commissionerate said they conducted surprise raids at several bars at Laxmisagar in the state capital. They found women dancing in front of customers, blatantly violating the permitted norms and guidelines.
Police said the bar owners had brought women dancers from neighbouring West Bengal as well as far off places like Nainital, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi and Haryana to lure customers.
The bar dancers have been kept in police custody, sources said.
The Police Commissionerate also conducted similar raids at bars in Cuttack late on Friday.
