Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday submitted a 940-page charge sheet against matric fail fake doctor Ramesh Chandra Swain on charges of conning 18 women into marriage and swindling their riches.
His second wife Kamala Tirkey, sister Rashmita Beura and his two associates – Biswaranjan Das and Chitta Ranjan Pattnaik – have also been mentioned as accused in the charge sheet filed by Mahila Police.
The police also named 102 persons as witnesses in the case.
Notably, 66-year-old Swain of Odisha’s Kendrapada district was arrested on February 14. He was apprehended in Bhubaneswar on the basis of a complaint lodged by a Delhi-based school teacher, whom he had married in 2018. Later that month, the Commissionerate Police raided a house at Iswarpur area in Kendrapara and picked up his sister for questioning. His second wife, a medical practitioner, was arrested from Jharkhand for allegedly helping Swain in the fraud.
A father of five children, Swain tied the knot for the first time in 1982 and re-married in 2002. Between 2002 and 2020, he befriended middle-aged single women who sought companionship on matrimonial websites and married them. He posed as a doctor posted as a deputy director-general under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
