Berhampur: A day after it was opened in the city, the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet was sealed by the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) on Saturday for violation of COVID guidelines.
The outlet of the international chain of fast food restaurants known for its fried chicken opened in a market complex in front of Telephone Bhawan in Old Bus Stand area on Friday. It was allowed to supply takeaway through online booking to restrict heavy rush under COVID regulations.
The outlet witnessed heavy rush of the delivery boys of different online order providers on Saturday. On being informed, a team of BeMC led by Tarunkant, Enforcement Officer conducted a raid and sealed the newly opened outlet.
Though Ganjam comes under category-A district under the fresh guidelines of the state government, there are chances of the spread of epidemic and any kind of violation of COVID guidelines considered as a serious offence, BeMC sources said.
However, KFC authorities said they were not allowing any customer to enter the outlet. The delivery boys of different online order providers rushed in and it went out of control.
KFC India, which operates around 380 stores throughout the country, had opened its first outlet in Berhampur.
