New Delhi: Indian women continue to break the glass ceiling!
A female fighter pilot of the Indian Air Force will soon be joining the Golden Arrows squadron and flying the newly-inducted Rafale fighter jets. The woman pilot is undergoing training, PTI learnt from official sources.
The total strength of serving female officers in the IAF is 1,875, of whom 10 are fighter pilots and 18 navigators.
An internal process was followed to select the first female pilot for Rafale fleet. The chosen pilot has been flying MiG-21 fighters.
Ten Rafale jets have been delivered to India so far. Twenty-six more aircrafts will be delivered, by the end of 2021.
The first batch of five Rafale jets arrived in India on July 29. The cost of the 36 jet aircrafts is Rs 59,000 crore.
