Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and former MLA of Puri Maheswar Mohanty has alleged that a section of his party workers had conspired to defeat him.
The veteran leader, who was confident of winning the Puri Assembly seat for the sixth time in a row, gave three reasons for his defeat.
“My defeat in this election was due to over confidence, weak Congress candidate and blind trust on my party workers and associates. Of these three reasons, the last one has hurt me the most,” Maheswar told mediapersons here.
The apprehension of the BJD leader has been corroborated by Jayant Sarangi, the BJP candidate, who had defeated him in the election.
“Some disgruntled BJD leaders and workers had given me their tacit support,” Sarangi had told a national English daily on Monday.
