Kolkata: South Kolkata’s prominent community celebration, 22 Palli Sarodotsab at Northern Park in Bhowanipore, has unveiled a breathtaking visual treat for festival-goers this season. Drawing inspiration from the sacred coastal architecture of Odisha, the committee has recreated the divine aura of Puri’s Jagannath Dham right inside the heart of the city.
Known for conceptualising deeply immersive and socially conscious themes over the decades, ranging from water conservation to mental well-being, 22 Palli has pivoted toward grand temple architecture this year, transporting visitors straight to the spiritual hub of Puri.
Recreating the Architectural Splendour
The pandal encapsulates the intricate craftsmanship, towering structures, and distinct structural motifs reminiscent of the iconic 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Pilgrim Town of Puri. Master artisans and craftsmen have spent months meticulously replicating the exterior design, intricate carvings, and the divine sanctity associated with the holy shrine.
Organisers noted that the theme aims to offer devotees and art enthusiasts a profound spiritual experience without having to travel across state lines. The ambient lighting, traditional Odia architectural nuances, and background soundscapes evoke the peaceful and majestic environment of Puri.
Alongside the magnificent structural display, the committee features a contemporary idol of Goddess Durga that seamlessly blends traditional grace with modern artistic expression.
For anyone looking to experience a divine slice of Odisha alongside the quintessential warmth of Kolkata’s pujo, the 22 Palli Sarodotsab pandal in Bhowanipore is a must-visit destination this season.
