Rourkela: A two-member team of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Friday inspected the infrastructure and other facilities at Rourkela Airport, where commercial flight services are expected to begin soon.
The inspection team included senior officials of some private air carriers.
Sundargarh Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan, Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) Commissioner Dibyajyoti Parida, MP Jual Oram and senior officials of RSP were also present.
In January 2019, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had replaced the private airport licence of Steel Authority of India Ltd with commercial licence. Following which, the AAI signed an MoU with SAIL for operation and management of the airport.
The commercial flight service under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of UDAN (Ude Desh Ki Aam Nagrik) from the ready-to-use Rourkela Airport run by RSP was earlier scheduled to begin from March 2020.
In October, Sundargarh collector had informed that the operationalisation of the airport was delayed as the RSP was yet to provide the required land and infrastructure.
“It was decided that the RSP will provide necessary requirements within 5 months, while the AAI officials will resolve the majority of technical issues. Besides, the state government will provide all necessary assistance,” he added.
