Aamir Khan Drops Pretence, Quits Social Media; The Other Celebs Who Broke Up With Twitter

Mumbai: After thanking his fans for the birthday wishes, actor Aamir Khan on Monday asked them to follow his production house’s Instagram account for updates on him.

Reason: He has quit social media.

“Hey guys, thank you so much for all the love and warmth on my birthday. My heart is full. In other news, this is going to be my last post on social media. Considering that I am so active anyway I have decided to drop the pretence. We will continue to communicate as we did before. In addition, AKP has created its official channel! So future updates on me and my films can be found there. Here’s the official handle! @akppl_official Lots of love, always a,” Aamir wrote on his Instagram account.

He is currently busy shooting for his film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.

In the past, many actors deactivated their accounts over negativity and social media toxicity.

Filmmaker Shashank Khaitan, who is best known for his films like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, deactivated his Twitter account on June 15, 2020. The filmmaker said that he was done with Twitter as it had become a breeding ground for hatred and negativity.

On June 20, 2020, Sonakshi Sinha wrote: “The first step to protecting your sanity is to stay away from negativity. And nowhere more of that than Twitter these days!”

Saqib Saleem, who is known for his role in Race 3, was next to part ways with social media. “I’m Breaking Up with you Twitter. You seem to have gotten lost in all the hate everyone is so ready to throw at each other, a place full of bullies, a place where abusing people is a normal code of conduct… I don’t need this kind of energy,” he wrote the same day.

Actors Aayush Sharma, Salman Khan’s brother in law,  took to Instagram on June 21, 2020, and wrote 280 characters less to define a human being, but are enough to spread hatred.

Zaheer Iqbal also said ‘goodbye’ to Twitter on similar grounds.

Calling it a ‘toxic place’ which is full of ‘negativity and trolls’, filmmaker Milap Zaveri quit the micro-blogging site Twitter on August 17, 2020. The filmmaker wrote on his Instagram account that he had joined the platform because it was a ‘great place’ to express ‘views, thoughts, and musings’ but not anymore.

On August 22, 2020, Sooraj Pancholi quits Instagram and deleted all his Instagram posts, except for the one he had posted on his 28th birthday, November 9, 2018. “See you Instagram! Hopefully will see you someday when the world is a better place,” Sooraj had shared in his Insta story after being dragged into controversy, associating him to the untimely deaths of Sushant Singh Rajput and his ex-manager Disha Salian.

Sayani Gupta, who enjoys a massive fan following on social media handles, announced that she is taking a digital detox for a few days on August 25, 2020.

It all started when Kriti Sanon lashed out at social media toxicity in a post following the shocking death of her Raabta co-star Sushant.
