New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “kidnapping” its municipal councillor Ram Chander.
The saffron party dismissed the allegation as ‘fake sensationalism’.
After his return, the ‘abducted’ councillor claimed he was threatened by BJP on the pretext of being framed in ED and CBI cases.
“In the morning, five or six people came to my house and took me in a car to the BJP office. There they threatened me with CBI and ED. My leaders called the police commissioner and they got me released,” Chander said in a video message.
“I am not scared of CBI and ED. I am a true soldier of Arvind Kejriwal,” he added.
A councillor from Ward No. 28, Chander was one of five members to have joined the BJP on July 25. However, he had a change of heart a few days later after seeing jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in his dream and returned to AAP.
Denying that the BJP was involved in any such incident as claimed by Chander, the party’s media in-charge Praveen Shankar Kapoor hit back at AAP.
“You guys are the kings of fake sensationalism. Councillor Ram Chander is not in your party.. We have nothing to do with it, but it is certain that he is sitting in his house. And you people are spreading rumours,” he stated on X.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said earlier in the day that BJP threatened the councillor with ED and CBI.
“When he did not get scared, BJP goons picked him up in a car and took him away,” alleged the former deputy CM of Delhi.
Another AAP leader Sanjay was equally vocal.
“BJP’s open hooliganism in the country’s capital.. councillor Ram Chander has been kidnapped after being threatened. He has been threatened to be defamed by using ED and CBI. Listen to his son Akash. What is happening in Delhi,” Singh posted on X.
AAP also held a press conference to bring its charge in public.
“I am searching for him on the road, his phone is switched off,” said AAP leader Dilip Pandey. “Shahbad Dairy police station SHO has been talked to, who says that no such kidnapping case has been registered in his police station.”
